- The government is coming under pressure from UEFA to scrap a controversial clause that will require the new independent football regulator (IFR) to take into account "foreign and trade policy" when making decisions about club owners and directors.

- The UK will not approve the use of long-range missiles against targets in Russia without the agreement of the United States as Zelenskiy pleads for "decisiveness", The Times has been told.

- Prime Minister Keir Starmer is under pressure from Labour backbenchers and NGOs to distance his government from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's hard-right immigration policies on the eve of bilateral talks in Rome.

- Campaigners have urged British finance minister Rachel Reeves to start taxing jet fuel – with a report from a think tank showing that charging duty at the same rate paid by motorists would raise up to 6 billion pounds ($7.89 billion) a year for the public finances.
