China, Hong Kong stocks decline weighed down by consumer firms

HONG KONG, Aug 28 (Reuters) -China and Hong Kong stocks dropped on Wednesday, as disappointing interim results from beverage and restaurant companies highlighted deflation risks.
** Shares of Nongfu Spring 9633.HK, China's largest bottled water supplier, slumped 12% after the firm posted a much slower profit growth for the first half amid a fierce domestic price war, dragging down Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index.
** By the midday break, the Shanghai Composite index .SSEC was down 0.22% at 2,842.48 points.
** The blue-chip CSI 300 index .CSI300 was down 0.61%, with financials .CSI300FS slipping 0.26%, consumer staples .CSI000912 down 2.22%, real estate .CSI000952 falling 0.3% and healthcare .CSI300HC weaker by 0.61%.
** CSI Liquor index .CSI399997 lost 4.3% to lead sectoral declines.
** Chinese H-shares listed in Hong Kong .HSCE fell 1.33% to 6,222.21, while the Hang Seng Index .HSI was down 0.97% at 17,700.93.
** Hong Kong shares of Alibaba Group 9988.HK fell 1% on the first trading day after the firm upgraded its Hong Kong listing to primary status.
** The Hang Seng Tech index .HSTECH fell 1.8%.
** The smaller Shenzhen index .SZSC was unchanged, the start-up board ChiNext Composite index .CNT was weaker by 0.31% and Shanghai's tech-focused STAR50 index .STAR50 was down 0.55%.
** Around the region, MSCI's Asia ex-Japan stock index .MIAPJ0000PUS was weaker by 0.21% while Japan's Nikkei index .N225 slipped 0.03%.
** The yuan CNY=CFXS was quoted at 7.1294 per U.S. dollar, 0.08% weaker than the previous close of 7.1237.
