European futures edge up on rate cut bets

EUROPEAN FUTURES EDGE UP ON RATE CUT BETS
European equity futures are higher on Friday as markets added to bets on an outsized rate cut from the Fed next week, after media reports suggested the decision was a close call and an influential former Fed rate-setter said he'd be in favour of a larger move.
"I think there's a strong case for 50," said Bill Dudley, the former chief of the NY Fed.
Futures markets are fully pricing a 25-basis point move, with around a 43% chance of a jumbo 50 bp cut. Yesterday that stood at around 13% FEDWATCH.
That repricing looks set to give some support to risky assets on Friday, a day after the ECB lowered interest rates for the second time this cycle.
For now, Euro STOXX 50 futures STXEc1 are up 0.3%. Futures on the FTSE FFIc1, DAX FDXc1 and CAC FCEc1 are up 0.1%-0.3%.
In corporate news, the struggling autos sector could be in focus again after Stellantis STLAM.MI said it was suspending production of its fully electric Fiat 500 due to sluggish demand.
