Exane says market jitters may prolong interest in Food & HPC sector
** BNP Paribas Exane says further soft-landing jitters may prolong investors' recent interest in the Food & Household and Personal Care (HPC) sector
** Exane notes the sector's relative valuation has seen a substantial correction, with its forward P/E ratio trading at an around 41% premium vs the market, down from the 84% premium in September 2022
** "Should soft-landing jitters continue, we suspect the recent increase in investor interest may endure," it says
** Exane upgrades hygiene products maker Essity ESSITYb.ST to "outperform" citing a material upside to 2025 earnings, with the broker's EPS estimate 8% above consensus
** It upgrades coffee and tea company JDE Peet's JDEP.AS to "neutral" on its reasonable valuation and new CEO appointment
** It downgrades L'oreal OREP.PA to "underperform" saying the cosmetics firm's valuation fails to reflect the "new Chinese normal" and expecting lower sales growth in 2025 and 2026
