Foreign purchases of Indian govt bonds tops $7 bln after JPM index inclusion
Foreign purchases of Indian government bonds has been rising at a faster-than-anticipated pace after the debt got included in JPMorgan's index on June 28, traders say
Overseas investors have net bought bonds worth over 590 billion rupees ($7.07 billion) from June 28 to Sept. 20, CCIL data shows
Purchases got a boost in last two weeks in the run up to Fed policy easing, with 129 billion rupees of buying
"The way things are turning out, we would not be surprised if more front loading takes place over the next couple of months," trader with a foreign bank says
Purchase since inclusion dominated by 7.04% 2029 bond IN070429G=CC, benchmark 7.10% 2034 bond IN071034G=CC, and 7.18% 2033 bond IN071833G=CC which has the highest weightage in JPM index; 35% of buying seen in these securities
