China stocks largely flat after holiday break
SHANGHAI, Sept 18 (Reuters) -China stocks were roughly flat on Wednesday, reopening after the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, with gains in financial stocks offset by losses in consumer-related shares.
The Hong Kong market is closed for a holiday.
** The blue-chip CSI 300 Index .CSI300 edged up 0.18% by the lunch break, while the Shanghai Composite Index .SSEC slipped 0.05%.
** The financial sector sub-index .CSI300FS was higher by 0.71%, while consumer staples .CSI000912 lost 1.58%.
** Liquor shares continued to decline, reflecting weak domestic demand, with Kweichow Moutai 600519.SS down 2.1% to the lowest level in more than four years.
** China's announcement to join the global push towards raising the retirement age also acted as a drag on sentiment.
** The real estate index .CSI000952 was up 0.25% and the healthcare sub-index .CSI300HC was down 0.2%.
** The smaller Shenzhen index .SZSC was down 1.04%, the start-up board ChiNext Composite index .CNT dipped 0.38% and Shanghai's tech-focused STAR50 index .STAR50 fell 1.63%.
** MSCI's Asia ex-Japan stock index .MIAPJ0000PUS slipped 0.09% while Japan's Nikkei index .N225 inched up 0.28%.
** Globally, market participants are awaiting the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision, as it could affect sentiment and volatility in Hong Kong and China stocks.
** The yuan CNY=CFXS was quoted at 7.0963 per U.S. dollar, 0.01% weaker than the previous close of 7.0958.
** So far this year, the Shanghai stock index and the CSI 300 index have fallen 9.1% and 7.8%, respectively.
