KOSPI rises, foreigners net sellers Korean won weakens against dollar South Korea benchmark bond yield rises

SEOUL, Sept 20 (Reuters) - Round-up of South Korean financial markets:

** South Korean shares rose on Friday tracking overnight gains in Wall Street, and were set to log a second straight weekly gain. The won weakened, while the benchmark bond yield rose.

** The benchmark KOSPI .KS11 rose 23.84 points, or 0.92%, to 2,604.64 by 0232 GMT. Of the total 933 traded issues, 570 shares advanced and 303 declined.

** Among index heavyweights, chipmaker Samsung Electronics 005930.KS rose 1.11% and peer SK Hynix 000660.KS gained 3.27%, while battery maker LG Energy Solution 373220.KS climbed 3.45%.

** Hyundai Motor 005380.KS added 1.63% and sister automaker Kia Corp 000270.KS gained 1.06%, while search engine Naver 035420.KS and instant messenger Kakao 035720.KS were unchanged and up 0.28%, respectively.

** Wall Street equities closed higher overnight, a day after the Fed cut interest rates by 50 basis points and indicated more rate cuts were on the horizon. .N

** The number of Americans filing new applications for unemployment benefits dropped to a four-month low last week, pointing to solid job growth in September and offering confirmation that the economy continued to expand in the third quarter.

** Foreigners were net sellers of shares worth 15.2 billion won on the main board on Friday.

** The won was quoted at 1,330.4 per dollar on the onshore settlement platform KRW=KFTC, 0.09% lower than its previous close at 1,329.2.

** In offshore trading, the won KRW= was quoted at 1,329.7 per dollar, down 0.2%, while in non-deliverable forward trading its one-month contract KRW1MNDFOR= was quoted at 1,327.2.

** The KOSPI has fallen 1.91% so far this year, while the won has lost 3.2% against the dollar.

** In money and debt markets, December futures on three-year treasury bonds KTBc1 rose 0.01 point to 106.33.

** The most liquid three-year Korean treasury bond yield fell by 0.6 bps to 2.834%, while the benchmark 10-year yield rose by 1.4 bps to 2.988%.
